AUEC X VUWG Showmatch Poster

For Auckland University Esports Club / VUWG

This was the first project I was assigned to after joining AUEC in the fall of 2025. In all honesty, the transition from UI design to graphic design was pretty jarring at first. I find that UI is very intuitive in the sense that your creative choices primarily come from adapting the intended functionality and user-flow of the application into something the user can interact with, whereas graphic design is built upon adapting an emotion or message that you want to convey to the audience. My inexperience at the time is pretty evident by looking at this poster—the brief asked that I include assets from all three games in the design, so I spent the majority of my time composing a layout that was visually appealing. While I think the final arrangement does give it a very cinematic charm, the rest of the elements which accompany the central key art are relatively visually uninspiring and don't bring much to the table. In retrospect, I think I could have used the central composition as a launchpad to lean further into the movie poster aesthetic. That isn't to undercut my work at the time, though. This poster marked the beginning of a period of rapid development as a designer through working at AUEC, and the shortcomings I experienced then laid the foundation for my growth today.
